FeitenOndanks dat vrouwenbesnijdenis in Nederland verboden is komt het nog
steeds voor dat meisjes en vrouwen zich laten besnijden. Uit onderzoek
blijkt dat circa 14.000 meisjes in Nederland het risico lopen om
besneden te worden. In Nederland en veel andere landen is dat verboden
omdat dit een pijnlijke ingreep is met grote gevolgen voor de gezondheid
van een vrouw. Er bestaan verschillende vormen van besnijdenis, waarbij
delen van de vagina geheel of gedeeltelijk worden verwijderd:
